Ranchi: The first phase test of covid-19 patients with Unani drugs produced positive results, doctors involved in the trial said on Thursday.
The trial was part of the project to find a drug for Covid-19 infection and supported by the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (Ayush).
The trial was carried out by a team of three doctors, two of which came from the largest hospital in the state, Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
The third is a Ayush and research practitioner.
The team was led by the main investigator Dr.
Anshul Kumar who was also the head of the cardio-thoracic vascular surgery department in the Rims.
Speaking with TII about the trial, Dr.
Anshul said, “We started the research project in January this year and chose 46 patients for the trial.
Our first patient was registered on February 26 and the trial lasted until May 11.” He further said, “We gave three Unani – Two Miligram Tiryaq Wabai once a day for 45 days, two nose drops four times a day for 10 days or until the symptoms subside and one of the Lobbe tablets twice a day for ten days.

“Dr.
Anshul added,” Patients with diabetes, hypertension, liver, kidney disease, and uncontrolled patients in the support of ventilators are not included in the trial because of the circumstances of Immuno compromised.
” In the second phase test, he will choose 100 patients and will begin in a few weeks.
This project was given a total RS 6.2 lakh and the first installment of RS 5 Lakh provided for the team.
This team, however, look for more funds to continue the project.
“We have asked the ministry for more funds and we hope we immediately get it,” said Dr.
Anshul.
