Jammu: All schools in the Leh District are closed for 15 days since Saturday after Ladakh reported 71 fresh Covid-19 cases, the highest single-day increase in the last time for two months, officials said at 20,702, officials said.
The majority of new cases were detected from the Druk Padma Karpo School Shey, encouraging the Development Commissioner District (LEH) Shrikant Balasaheb SUSE to notify the school campus as a detention zone to stop the spread of further infection, they said.

In a command issued at the end of Friday, the District Judge said the decision was taken considering the reporting of fresh Covid-19 cases in schools and for the benefit of the health and safety of the community.

Of the 71 new cases, officials said 70 cases, including dozens of students were detected in Leh and one in Cargil.
Now there are 109 active cases in Ladakh, including 106 on Leh and three in Cargil, they said.
Officials said three covid patients – two in Leh and one in Cargil – was released after successful treatment, taking the total number of patients who were cured to 20,386.
Ladakh has registered 207 deaths related to Covid – 149 in Leh and 58 in Cargil – since last year’s pandemic outbreak.
