Canberra, Australia: The second largest city in Australia, Melbourne, went to the sixth lock on Thursday, with the leader of the state government blaming the slow launch of Covid-19 vaccination in the country.
Melbourne joined Sydney and Brisbane, each of the most populous and third cities in Australia, in locking because the distribution of Delta variants were very contagious.
Melbourne and surrounding Victoria State will be locked for seven weeks after eight new infections detected in the city, Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews said.
Andrews gives a notification of less than four hours that the state will be locked from 8 pm.
He said his government had no other choice because only 20% of Australian adults were fully vaccinated on Wednesday.
“To be truly honest, we don’t have enough people who have been vaccinated and, therefore, this is the only choice available to us, ‘said Andrews.
“ Time will arrive when we have more choices.
But it’s not now.
” Andrews has accused the neighbor of New South Wales because it was too long to lock Sydney after a limousine driver who was infected while carrying US aircrew from Sydney Airport who was tested positively against the Delta variant on June 16.
New South Wales on Thursday reported his worst day since Lockdown Sydney began on June 26 with a record of 262 new local infections and five deaths.
New South Wales Premier Gladys Kniklian said four dead people were not vaccinated.
One has a single dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine two shots at the end of May.
The Australian authorities have urged people in Sydney to not wait for the optimal 12 weeks before getting their second astrazeneca dose.
“ Nothing dies has both vaccine doses.
I can’t emphasize enough how it is very important for everyone of all ages to advance and get a vaccine, ” said Keyprinian.
Astrazeneca and Pfizer are the only vaccines available in Australia.
There are 21 Covid-19 deaths reported in Sydney since the latest outbreak begins.
There were 78 deaths confirmed in New South Wales since the pandemic began.
The government reported 262 infections obtained locally in the latest 24-hour period.
Six other cases were diagnosed in the hotel quarantine and were not considered a threat to the community.
When Victoria ended the fifth lip last week, Andrews said he believed the country was the only jurisdiction in the world that had defeated the Delta outbreak twice.
Melbourne was the Australian pandemic center last year, when the new infection peaked at 725 a day in August.
925 Covid-19 Australia reported death since the pandemic began, 820 had occurred in Victoria.
The authorities gained confidence on Thursday that Brisbane and the surrounding cities in the Queensland state would end the eight-day lock according to plan on Sunday.
The head of Queensland Health Officer Jeannette Young said efforts to suppress the spread had surpassed expectations.
All 16 new cases obtained locally reported on Thursday have been directly related to known exposure sites.
But doubts grew that the Lockdown Sydney would end as planned on August 28 as the letter number continued to grow.
