Before Chatti Bariatang, NTPC had mined coal from the Punkri-Burwadih coal mine with M / S thrivi earthmovers and Sainik Mining as MDO in the same area to feed thermal power plants throughout the country.
Mines Punkri-Burwadih has an annual capacity of around 15 million metric tons.

The Chatti-Barielatu coal mine was allocated back to NTPC in 2015 but it was lying not used for years.
Coal from this mine will be used to feed NTPC plants in BARH in Bihar.
“During the meeting with MDO, the activity to be taken and the schedule was discussed.
NTPC emphasized at the beginning of coal production from the Chatti mine -Bariata at FY 2021-22 so that NTPC could increase the supply of coal to the power station that would ensure the power supply without interference with its customers,” Official communiques issued by NTPC read.
Thermal officials expressed confidence that villagers, local administration and state government would expand cooperation in starting mining activities.
While the land acquisition process at the advanced stage, NTPC management hopes to complete the remaining formality immediately.
“It was due to the collaboration of villagers and support provided by local administration under the guidance of the state government that coal shipments from the Banadag train siding area can be continued from October 10, earlier this month caused by local protests,” A NTPC official said.
NTPC has four mines in hazaribag.
After Chatti Baritu became operational, they will still have a Kererkera and Badam project where the land acquisition process is taking place.
