Thiruvananthapuram: The Second Phase Expansion of the IDUKKI Hydro Hydro Project by Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) can operate in 2026 if everything goes according to the Board’s plan for the Mammoth project which is estimated at RS 4,000 Crore investment.
According to the concept record prepared by the Peak Management Board, at least three of the total six new generator stations, each with a capacity of 130MW, will be ready for commissioning in 2026 if the work began in 2022 planned.
The IDUKKI project will complete a 50-year anniversary in 2026.
After a feasibility study, the Board will soon float the global tender for the new 780MW electric house, using the same reservoir from the IDUKKI project which currently produces around 15% of the power consumed by around 15% of the country.
Besides IDUKKI, KSEB has several other reservoirs such as Kundala, Mattupetti, Anayirankal, Ponmudi, Sengulam, Kallartankutty, Periyar Lower, Kallar and Irattayar in the Idukki District.
“KSEB can start working from the second IDUKKI power house in 2022 after obtaining permission needed.

It also proposes the idea of ​​establishing tourism cities – adventure by utilizing land under KSEB detention and similar institutions in the Idukki district.
This note also proposes to build a ‘Dam tourism circuit’ by introducing the service of Amah that connects the dam owned by KSEB.
This project can be launched in connection with the State Tourism Department, without touching forest areas.

The Board is awaiting permission from the service for the project under the Darsan Swadesi Program.
