Chennai: Local agency polls in nine newly made districts in Tamil Nadu will be held in two phases on October 6 and 9, the Commissioner of the V Palanikumar state election was announced on Monday.
While polls will be held on 39 States on October 6, 35 unions remaining will go for voting on October 9 Chengalpet, Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, Villupuram, Kallakuruchi, Tirunelveli, and Tenkasi District.
Submission of nominations will begin on September 15 and continue until September 22.
“The election will be held for 27,003 posts, including 2,901 Panchayat Village President post and 22,581 village members of the Panchayat Environment,” Commissioner said.
A total of 76,59,720 voters will use their franchise in two phase polls.
Polling will take place from 7am to 6pm.
Covid patients and people with symptoms will be allowed to choose from 17:00 to 6pm.
As many as 1.10 employees of the Lakh government will be involved in the polling task.
The Commission will involve IAS officers as electoral observers for each district.
“We have taken all prevention steps to conduct polls for free and fair.
The arrangements have been made after holding a meeting with representatives of political parties,” said Palanikumar.
The Election Commission has begun preparatory work to hold elections for urban local agencies.
