Saint Paul: Former Police Minneapolis Derek Chauvin serves 22 years in prison for the murder of George Floyd, a 46-year-old African-American.
Now three other former police officers at the scene were being tried for their actions that day – or more precisely their failure to take action.
The jury selection began on Thursday in the Federal Tou Thao trial, J.
Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane, accused of violating FLLOYD civil rights.
Chauvin was convicted of murder in the trial of the State and pleaded guilty last month for federal accusations using excessive strength during Floyd May 25, 2020.
Arrest for allegedly using a fake $ 20 to buy a packet of cigarettes.
Floyd’s death, which was filmed by an observer on a cellphone, went to protest for months in the United States against racial injustice and police brutality.
Chauvin looked after his knee on Floyd’s neck handcuffed for almost 10 minutes, while Kueng was on his back and Lane held his legs.
Thao continued to retreat which begged Chauvin to get off the floyd neck that looked depressed, which finally fainted and died.
Chauvin is a 18-year-old veteran from Minneapolis Police; Thao has served for eight years while Kueng and Lane are new recruits, after joining the department in December 2019.
Thao, Kueng and Lane must face the minnesota allegations in connection with the death of Floyd in the trial scheduled to begin on June 13.
But in the signal of the case, the federal prosecutor also filed charges against them.
Takaya charactment of Thao, Kueng and Lane by showing “intentional indifference to serious medical needs (floyd)”.
Thao and Kueng also “intentionally failed to intervene in” to stop “the use of unreasonable strength” against Floyd, according to the indictment.
Lane did not face the second accusation.
The arrest video showed that on two occasions during the arrest of Floyd, Lane suggested that he rolled by his side.
Not guilty of the federal trial request held in the courtroom guarded by Saint Paul, Sister City to Minneapolis.
The three men apply innocence.
Lawyers for Kueng and Lane are expected to argue during the trial that people are not in a position to challenge Chauvin authorities, senior officers at the scene.
Thao’s lawyer is expected to claim that his client’s attention is focused on guarding the audience, and he does not know the condition of Floyd.
The judge heard this case set aside two days for the jury election.
The trial, which is expected to last at least two weeks, can be started on Monday.
Unlike the Chauvin State trial, the federal trial was not broadcast on television.
