New Delhi: There has been a sharp increase in the retail price of vegetable oils during this year, the highest since 2016 in the year, the Ministry of Food and Consumers told Rajya Sabha on Friday.
Data at the price of six oiled oils submitted to Hulu House shows that the maximum increase in this year has been in the case of sunflower oil (40.6%), followed by Soyabean (37%) and palmolin (35.3%) compared to the price of 2020.
The ministry said the retail price of Mustard oil increased by 29% during this year compared to 2020 and the price of peanut oil had reached 17% during this period.
Vanaspati prices have increased by 35%.
For the reason for the shooting of prices during the Corona period, the Ministry said, “eating oil prices are inter-alia which are influenced by incompatibility in demand and supply, an increase in international vegetable oil prices, lack of domestic production due to bad weather conditions, seasonal, increase in transportation costs and Supply chain constraints.
“Responding to questions about whether ordinary people can consume the amount of oil that can be eaten in everyday food, by maintaining a high price, the ministry said,” because the increase in the living standards of the people, demand for oil has increased.
