GUWAHATI: Assam flood situation improved on Sunday with the number of people affected by the flood down to more than 1.18 lakh new and no fatalities were reported, said a bulletin.
According to a daily flood report on the Disaster Management Authority Assam (ASDMA), at least 1,18,300 people suffer from Banpeta, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Destination, Golaghat, Morigaon District and Nagaon.
Golaghat was the worst district with around 48,300 affected people, followed by Darrang and Morigaon.
Until Saturday, almost 1.77 people were hit by floods in 12 district districts.
The total number of people who lost their lives in the flood this year stood in seven, said the bulletin.
Four people who sank, but Asdma said this was the case of “general sinking” and was not included in the flood victims.
At present, 646 villages are underwater and around 19,659 hectares of harvest areas have been damaged throughout Assam, said the bulletin.
Authorities run 24 relief camps and distribution centers in nine districts, where 2,333 people, including 439 children, have been sheltered.
Administration has distributed 10.65 quintals of rice, dal and salt, 11.25 liters of mustard oil, 419.25 animal feed quintals and other flood relief items during the day.
Massive erosion witnessed in Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Morigaon and Sonitpur District, said Bulletin.
The road, bridge and other infrastructure has been damaged by floods in Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Golaghat and Udalguri, said Asdma.
At least 2,01,578 domestic poultry and poultry have been influenced by flooding in eight districts, he added.
Meanwhile, the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in a flood report said 35 percent of the forest area is still under flood waters.
From 223 camps, 32 affected.
