Guwahati: The situation of the floods in Assam increased further on Saturday with the surface of the water in a large river that receded and the number of people affected by the flood fell almost one lakh, even as another fatality because of the disaster reported, said a bulletin.
More than 1.76 Lakh people in 17 districts suffered floods, while the death of one more people raised the victim in the flood wave at this time to seven, said the State Disaster Management Authority Assam (ASDMA).
On Friday, the number of districts affected was aged 22 and the people affected by more than 2.71 lakh.
Overall, 42 circles of income and 863 villages remained affected, while 23,884 hectares of plants have also been damaged, according to the ASDMA bulletin.
Golaghat was the worst district with 63,984 people who suffered, followed by Darrang and Morigon.
Authorities run 17 aid camps where at least 3,397 people have taken refuge, and 62 other distribution centers have been operating, he said.
17 affected districts are Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Rural Kamrup, Metropolitan Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Nagaon, Sonitpur and South Salmara.
Asdma said erosion was witnessed in Biswanath, Bongaiga, Dhubri, Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Sonitpur and Udalguri Regency.
Ummankment, roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been damaged by floods in several districts.
The Brahmaputra river flowed above the level of danger in two places in the District of Jorhat and Dhubri, while the surface of the Jia Bharali water was above the red sign in Sonitpur, a government official said.
All other large rivers are in the receding trend, he added.
