Mumbai: BMC on Monday completed the Indian Diameter Sewer Tunnel which was excavated in Mumbai by Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM).
Boring tunnel work began from Bandra on December 4, 2020, and was completed on January 17.
“Until now, 80 percent of this project work has been completed and the whole job is planned to be completed in December 202.
The length of the sewer tunnel is 1,857 meters, while the internal diameter of 2.60 meters and outer diameter is 3.20 meters.
The construction of the sewer tunnel is carried out with Adopting the segmental layer method.
Earth pressure balance techniques are used in soft, wet or unstable soil to air with speed and security, “said an official.
“Tunnel sewers are expected to serve a 72-month flow in the future.
These tunnels are designed given the flow of future up to 2051.
There is a shaft in Junction Mahim Causeway to divert the flow of waste in the future from the Chimbai pump station to the proposed tunnel.
The waste that leads to the station Jay Bharat’s pump will be transferred to Bandra through the proposed sewer tunnel.
The capacity of the gutter line from the location of the bandra-khar will increase.
Maintenance costs of Jay Bharat Pump Station in Khar (West), Chimbai Pump Station in Bandra (West) will be saved.
Waste flow through The sewer tunnel will reach bandra with gravity, “officially added.
