Thiruvananthapuram: Special Board Meeting to enforce a plastic ban in the city will be held on Monday.
Due to Covid restrictions, the meeting is likely to be held online.
Health committee has proposed a mass cleaning drive that focuses on cleaning plastic goods that are prohibited from the city this month.
Special Council will discuss and develop a plan to do a massive cleaning drive.
Earlier in 2021, the corporation has approved an action plan to gradually introduce plastic prohibitions in the city.
The action plan was formulated after notifications issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on August 12 which determined the schedule to ban plastics based on thickness.
According to the action plan, around 80,000 food packages are removed in the city during Covid time.
At the average, 1 lakh plastic bag and 1.5 lakh paper cups used by city residents, records of action plans.
According to the report, non-biodegradable waste is 35% of the total 400 tons of waste produced in the city.
With a plastic ban it comes into force, the corporation plans to reduce the generation of non-biodegradable waste by 20%.
