The SPL Board meets a plastic ban

Thiruvananthapuram: Special Board Meeting to enforce a plastic ban in the city will be held on Monday.
Due to Covid restrictions, the meeting is likely to be held online.
Health committee has proposed a mass cleaning drive that focuses on cleaning plastic goods that are prohibited from the city this month.
Special Council will discuss and develop a plan to do a massive cleaning drive.
MEARLIER in 2021, the corporation has agreed to a plan to introduce plastic prohibitions in stages in the city.
The action plan was formulated after notifications issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on August 12 which determined the schedule to ban plastics based on thickness.
As an action plan, around 80,000 food packages were discarded in the city during Covid time.
At the average, 1 lakh plastic carrying a bag and 1.5 lakh paper cup used by city residents, a record of action plans.
As a report, non-biodegradable waste is 35% of the 400 tons of total waste produced in the city.
With a plastic ban it comes into force, the corporation plans to reduce the generation of non-biodegradable waste by 20%.
