The state university sees a surge in foreign registration

With the release of the academic calendar for session 2021-22, many state universities have started the receipt process for undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Although some of them are still waiting for results and the final results of the last year announced to start receipt.
The University of Kerala has received more than 24000 applications including international students for various postgraduate programs, with high priority for science, British and trade programs.
The university is set to carry out the PG entrance exam from August 1-6.

MA in English & literature (1709) was attended by chemistry (1472), MSW (1449) and physics specializing in room physics (1215) recorded the highest application.
With only seven applications, Ma Russian language & literature has got the lowest number of applications.
Other subjects that have seen registration in two digits are West Asian studies (18), German & Literature (29), Tamil & Literature (26), Islamic History (33), Sanskrit Language General & Literature (27), Music ( 29) and Arabic & literary (52).
Foreign application
The university said Kumar had received extraordinary growth in foreign applicants this year.
“For the 2021-22 academic session, we have received nearly 1800 applications, which are much higher than in previous years.” He added that before we only had 30-50 applicants who submitted UG and PG courses.
Highlighting the reason behind the surge in registration of foreign students, Kumar believes that the current global health crisis may have encouraged students to choose neighboring countries.
“The highest number of candidates comes from Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The proximity of India seems to be one of the main reasons for this increase,” he added.
The University of Punjabi, Patiala which currently receives applications for technical courses, has so far received more than 600 registrations, including registration from foreign students.
“Closed with 200 applications have come from global students.
The majority of them are for BTECH while 50 students have submitted a PhD program,” said Manjit Singh, Professor, Coordinator, Cell Comprized Cell, Punjabi University, Patiala.
The University gets 94 foreign students in the 2020-21 academic session.
“Last year 50 students came from Ethiopia while others who came through the ICCAR, representing Gambia, Afghanistan, Ghana, Djibouti, Egypt, Nepal and Uganda,” Singh said.
He added that there were three students from the UAE too.
PhD, MBA, BBA, BCK is in the list of courses sought among international students.
In the increase in the number of foreign students on campus, Singh reasons apart from government initiatives, facilities offered by certain universities are also very important in attracting international students.
“Better teaching and learning facilities, support for students by the University make our brand ambassador alumni.
The Directorate of International Students handles faculty and academic exchange programs, international exposure tours, counseling to adjust to the new environment,” Singh added.

The presence of global students makes the class more diverse and vibrant.
“Their presence is beneficial for local students and teachers because they bring different perspectives,” he added.
Apart from finance, they make classrooms and campus more excited about their experience in their respective fields.
