Srinagar / Chandigarh: A pressure cooker bomb was found and tamed in Srinagar on Friday, while Ied five kg and Rs 1 lakh in Indian currencies were restored near the international border in Punjab where the election of the Assembly would be held in February.
IED in Srinagar was detected in the Khawjazar area in the Nowhatta area.
In Punjab, IGP (Range of Border, Amritsar) Mohnish Chawla said the Stf Assistant Inspector-General Rachpal Singh has received special input on Pakistani smugglers who sneak drugs, explosives and weapons consignments to the Attari region.
Acting on the input, STF launched the operation on Friday morning on Jalan Attari-Bachhiwind and found a suspicious package in the field of wheat near Dera Baba Gulab Shah, about 2.5 km from the international border.
“The closed package raises suspicion that it might contain explosives.
So we called in the bomb disposal squad from Jalandhar, who confirmed that the package contained around 5-kg IED and RS 1 Lakh in Indian currency,” said IGP Chawla.
Ied consists of 2.7 kg explosives, 1.36 kg of iron balls, three iron containers with a weight of 670 grams, three electrical detonators, digital timers, two sponge caps and polythene cover bags.
Claiming that shipping is smuggled from Pakistan, he said it is not clear whether Ied was dropped by a drone or was placed physically in the field.
