LONDON: England on Sunday named their strongest team available for touring ash to Australia when all-rounders Ben Stokes and Sam Curran skipped but Stuart Stuart was widely included despite the calf injury he took in the test series against India.
Stokes were not available because he continued his unlimited break from the cricket to focus on his mental health, while also recovering from the second operation on the broken finger.
Curran was removed due to stress fractures on his lower back.
There were no players who had not been exchanged in 17-member squad which included remember for Batsman Zak Crawley and Spinner Dom Bess.
Fast bowler Jofra Archer was also not available after he suffered a recurrence of stress fractures in his elbows and Olly Stone was ruled out with a back injury.
This series hesitated following concerns about the conditions of the tour in the country where international arrival had to isolate in the hotel quarantine for 14 days, regardless of the Covid-19 vaccination status.
The British players have expressed concern about the tour because of the “bubble fatigue” and because their families will not be able to travel with them because of the strict Australian Covid-19 protocol, but the British and Wales cricket board (ECB) provides conditional approval for it.
to continue on Friday.
The first test will begin in Brisbane on December 8, followed by the daytime match in Adelaide from December 16 before a traditional boxing test in Melbourne.
Sydney will host the fourth match and the last test will be in Perth starting on January 14.
Australia retains ash when the last team met in 2019 in England after a series 2-2 series.
