Nagpur: Water monitoring from Lake City conducted before so immersion Ganpathi Ided has found Lake Sakkardara in a “very bad shape”.
According to research conducted by the Green Vigil Foundation along with Earthecho International, the lake’s water level is quite low and most of the regions are covered by hyacinth.
“This caused a decrease in dissolved oxygen levels down to 3.0 mg / l.
Turbidity was reported as 55 JTU and pH as 7.8.
It is very important to cleanse the Sakkardara lake immediately to save him,” said Mehul Kosurkar, representative of the Foundation team leader.
The Earthecho water monitoring program is being carried out since 9 years.
Air Turkhedi, Sonegaon and Gandhisagar are also tested.
Finished three years, in February, pre and post immersion, this analyzes the impact of the Ganesh festival on the lake.
In accordance with the release, Earthecho International published a book that includes water quality data from various waterways from various countries around the world.
Green Vigil data has been published over the past 9 years.
Sheetal Choudhary of Green Vigil said because there was no immersion last year, “water quality futala, Gandhisagar and Sonegaon Lake were found in better conditions than in previous years”.
Kosurkar added that many Idol Krishna with ‘Nirmalya sank in all lakes.
“There is a focus only on GanPati Varajan, but we need to protect our lakes during other festivals such as Janmashtami, Teej and Devi Visarjan too,” he said.
Together with the beauty of the lake, preserving the lake ecosystem is the most important, said Surbhi Jaiswal, Green Vigil, Team Chair.
“The only supply of oxygen to our lake is only with atmospheric diffusion.
To maintain dissolved oxygen levels on our lakes, we need to install artificial oxygen supplies such as fountains,” he said.
Green Vigil has urged residents to install clay idols and immerse it at home or in a nearby artificial tank founded by NMC.
