Gurgaon: A study conducted by the National Environment Engineering Engineering Research Institute has revealed that air purifiers installed by GMDA last year brought a reduction of around 32% in PM10 and 17% in PM2.5.
The impact of air purifiers installed under the air care project is carried out by neeri during the winter 2020-2021.
The difference is calculated by measuring material particles in the incoming channel and outlet purifier.
There are 66 air purifiers installed in eight different locations throughout the city.
This study is needed to measure the value of PM10 and PM2.5 in different locations at different times, which are then averaged to get to the last numbers.
“The results of chemical characterization studies show sources of PM10 and PM2.5 in eight locations most of the vehicle exhaust and suspended road dust.
On sites such as Bakhtawar Chowk, Biomass burning is also found as the source,” said a copy of the report accessed by TOI.
Driven by response, neeri, along with the Indian and GSK pollution control association, decided to install 48 more air purifiers at other busy intersections in the city.
While the project was under GMDA, it was funded by GSK.
Pollution purifier is designed by neeri and installed by IPCA.
Subhas Yadav, District Forest Officer said that neeri is a government institution, and their findings must be taken seriously.
However, to better understand the impact of cleaning, GMDA has proposed the installation of low-cost air quality monitors near the purifier.
“This purifier will give us data to better understand the impact of project air care,” said Yadav.
However, Sachin Panwar, an independent air quality scientist based in the city, said: “This study was conducted at morning hours, which did not turn on a lot of air quality improvements.
In the morning hours, air tends to warm up slowly and pollutants are spread.
This is scattered.
It is a natural phenomenon and cannot be related to cleaning efficiency.
Gurgaon is still far from the air.
Also, this air purifier is mounted on the median and thus positioning is not true.
“Last November, the minister’s chairman had launched the project.
Wayu (Wind Augmentation Unit and Purification) Air cleaners have been developed by the CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) and are adjusted to overcome the increasing level of pollution in the city of Millennium.
