Chennai: Longing and depression encouraged the 22-year-old project assistant in Iit-Madras for selfies at the Hockey place at the Institute campus on Thursday, police said, quoting from the 11-page suicide recorded from the victim’s rented house in Velachery.
, The deceased was identified as Unni Krishnan Nair, Native Ernakulam.
After completing a master’s degree in his hometown, he came to Chennai three months ago and joined IIT-M as a project assistant.
He moved to a three-bedroom apartment in Velachhery, who was close to the Institute, along with anil from Kerala, a doctoral student at IIT-M, and a man from Thanjavur.
The police said there was no CCTV camera in a place where his burned body recovered, 200 meters from his office, but was considered suicide according to direct evidence and the record recovered from that place.
Suicide notes, most of whom do not meet the requirements, starting with the word ‘Beware,’ said a police officer.
It continued to describe his lonely life in the city and said that it was the first time he stepped out of his house since his childhood.
He also said that the decision to take his own life and that no one influenced him, the officer said.
Question by the police revealed that Unni Krishnan was the youngest staff member in the department where he worked and that he often talked about being isolated in the office and his house.
After talking to his parents, the police said he had made a video call to his mother at around 10:45 a.m.
on Thursday.
Then he went to his office.
That night, he poured his body with gasoline, seemed to be carried in a bottle, before turning it on.
The cellphone is completely burned in the incident.
After postmortem was conducted at the Royapettah Government Hospital (GRH), the Kotturpuram police on Friday gave up the body of Unni Krishnan to his family.
His father was doubtful, a scientist with Isro, his mother, a younger brother, who was a class VII student, and another relative then went with the body to Ernakulam to do the last ritual.
