New Delhi: Nine new judges, including three women, on Thursday was appointed to the Supreme Court with President Ram Nath Kovind signed their deputy appointment, said sources in the government.
Formal notification is expected to be immediately issued.
New judges in the upper field including the justice of the Nagarathna BV, which will be in line to become the first head of a female justice in India (CJI) in September 2027.

Previously, the Prime Minister’s office cleaned the nine names recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium led by chairman of Judge N V Ramana.
They are advised by the Ministry of Law to undergo customary medical tests before the issuance of the appointment warrant by the President.
This is the largest number of names recommended by the Collegium while going to make an appointment as a Judge SC and the fastest, within a week.
This promise has also created another milestone in the history of the country’s court as Narasimha will be the first appointment directly from the bar to become CJI.
