New York: This sword dress was brought by Napoleon Bonaparte when he made a coup in 1799 and five other firearms sold at auction of more than $ 2.8 million, US auctioner motorists announced Tuesday.
Lot, which was prepared for sale by the auction company Rock Island based in Illinois, sold on December 3 by telephone to a fixed buyer anonymous, the company President Kevin Hogan told AFP.
The sword and five ornaments pistols were initially valued at $ 1.5 million to $ 3.5 million.
With a sales of $ 2.87 million, “the Garniture Napoleon buyer brings home a very rare history,” Hogan said.
The sword, with the hump, is a “crown gem” collection, according to auctioner.
The weapon was made by Nicolas-Noel Boutet, who was the Director of the State Weapons Factory at Versailles.
After being crowded by the Emperor, Napoleon was believed to have presented the sword to Jean-Andoche Junot General, but the wife of General was then forced to sell it to pay off the debt.
It was then restored by the London Museum.
The US collector is the last owner, but the man recently died, according to the auction house.
