Dubai: The T20 World Cup this year, which has been transferred to the UAE and Oman from India due to the Pandemic Covid-19, will be played from October 17 to November 14, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Tuesday.
The ICC statement came a day after BCCI signaled the government body that the event could be moved from India.
“BCCI will remain host of the event, which will now be held at the Dubai International Stadium, Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah Stadium, and Ground Academy Cricket Oman, from October 17 to November 14, 2021,” The ICC was stated.
The first round of the tournament, consisting of eight qualifying teams, will now be divided between Oman and UAE.
Four of these teams will then develop into Super 12 rounds where they will join eight automatic qualifications.
The upcoming edition will be the first men’s T20 world cup played since 2016, when West Indies beat England in the final in India.
Eight competing teams in the preliminary stage were Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Ireland, the Netherlands, Scotland, Namibia, Oman and Papua New Guinea, before the play-off and final stage on November 14.
