KABUL: Taliban Foreign Minister, Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi on Tuesday met the Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Wang Yu, a spokesman said.
According to Tolo News, Taliban spokesman Mohammad Naeem said that China has promised USD 15 million humanitarian assistance and sustainable support for Afghanistan.
“The Taliban government minister Amir Khan Mutaqi met with Chinese envoys to Kabul, Wang Yu, on Tuesday, Taliban SPOX Mohammad Naeem Tweeted, said China had promised USD 15 million humanitarian assistance and sustainable support for Afghanistan,” Tolo News Tweeted.
This happened after the United States announced almost USD 64 million in additional humanitarian assistance for Afghan communities.
US Secretary Antony Blinken on Monday (local time) said US aid to Afghanistan would avoid the Taliban and go directly to non-governmental organizations and UN agencies that provide assistance to Afghanistan.
China has personal interests in Afghanistan as a Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) development project pass through the region.
China saw the opportunity to expand the BRI Multibilion-dollar projects to the country.
China, who has observed ongoing developments in Afghanistan, aims to expand its influence in Pakistan and in Central and South Asia with China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to fight the influence of the United States.
CPEC will connect Port Gwadar Selatan Pakistan (626 km west of Karachi) in Balochistan in the Arab Sea to the Xinjiang Western China region.
It also includes plans to make road, train and oil links to increase connectivity between China and the Middle East.
