The Taliban authorities have agreed to leave 200 American civilians and third citizens who remain in Afghanistan after the expiration of US evacuation operations to depart with charter flights from Kabul Airport, a US official said.
The Taliban was pressed to allow departure by US special representatives Zalmay Khalilzad, said the official, who spoke with Reuters with anonymity requirements.
Departure is expected on Thursday.
The official could not say whether the American citizens and third countries were among those who were stranded for days at Mazar-I-Sharif because their personal charter had not been allowed to leave.
