Islamabad: Ruhullah Azizi, the brother of former Afghan vice-president Amrullah Saleh, has been reported “executed” by the Taliban in the turbulent Panjshir valley, north of Kabul.
News of the death of Azizi was first reported by Aamej News, a language website from, in posting on Twitter.
It stated that the godly brother, a commander of resistance strength, was killed in the Rokha Panjshir district.
Quoting local sources, the website reported that he was arrested by the Taliban and was shot dead on Thursday night.
His death was later confirmed by his niece from Panjshir, the website said.
Zahra Rahimi, a Afghan journalist, tweeted that Azizi was killed by the Taliban after being held by the group while trying to escape from Panjshir.
According to Reuters, Salh’s nephew said the Azizi had been executed.
After the fall of Kabul last month and the escape of former President of Ashraf Ghani from the country, Saleh went to the Panjshir Valley, the only province that was not captured by the Taliban, and declared himself as President of Afghan direction in accordance with the Constitution.
He has announced the formation of the anti-Taliban Front, along with Ahmad Massoud, son of Slain Afghanistan Warlord Ahmad Shah Massoud, and former Defense Minister Bismillah Khan Mohammadi.
Saleh has become a strong political figure in Afghanistan and has survived many murder efforts.
He is known as critical bluntly against the Taliban and Pakistan.
Last week he had rejected media reports that he had fled to Tajikistan and showed his presence in Panjshir in the video posted on Twitter.
