The Taliban made former Afghan President Karzai, former Chief Executive Abdullah under virtual home arrest

Islamabad: Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Chief Executive of Drama Dr.
Abdullah Abdullah was allegedly under the arrest of a house in Kabul, with careful social media interactions and occasional visits by foreign officials under the world outside.
In the middle of the flight of Afghan leaders and officials after the takeover of Kabul Taliban last year, Karzai and Abdullah remained back and involved with the leaders of the new regime, including the Haqqani network, to complete the modalities for inclusive government.
Since the announcement of the temporary government last September, nothing was seen in public, strengthening speculation that they could be under the arrest of a virtual house.
Karzai lived with his family in government accommodation around the Presidential Palace, while Abdullah remained at his personal residence.
Both are active on Twitter, even though there are no posts but even critical of Taliban’s performance and policy.
Choose guests, including foreign officials, allowed to meet them, but the correspondence with the Duo requires Taliban approval.
Toi tried to find out why they did not choose to escape from the country after the Taliban entered Kabul, with a score of former other officials and even warlords such as Abdur Rasheed Dostum from Mazar-I-Sharif or Ismail Khan from Herat had left.
“These leaders have been related to the senior Taliban leadership for a long time.
Their criticism of former President of Ashraf Ghani and his government softened the Taliban’s attitude towards them,” said Abdul Haq Omari, a Afghan journalist.
“They knew earlier about the agreement between the Doha Taliban and American Office that the group fighters would not enter Kabul without the transfer of official power.
They are also sure to participate in the process.” Everything went afterwards, triggered by a massive evacuation of foreigners and Afghanistan, coupled with the collapse of the government engine led by former President of Ashraf Ghani.
Omari said it was Karzai who asked the Taliban to enter the capital to restore law and order.
“Because he and Abdullah are related to America and the Taliban, they have a plan,” said Ali Akbar Khan, a journalist based in Peshawar who had monitored last year’s events in Kabul.
“They are the people engaged to Taliban and Haqqani network leaders after the fall of Kabul.
They have the Taliban’s ears and their emphasis on forming ‘inclusive government’ highlighted by the media.
They think that their guidance and advice cannot be avoided for the Taliban.” Karzai and Abdullah are increasingly brave with the secret visit of the Director of CIA William on fire to Kabul and his meeting with Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Deputy Prime Minister of Afghanistan at this time.
The role in the Afghan government in the future for both of them was discussed at the meeting.
The Taliban plan, which is a secret to the announcement of their government, turned out to be the opposite of what Karzai and Abdullah expected.
The new Afghan government is not inclusive, also does not have a representation for women.
Another step that surprisingly inside and abroad was Mullah Baradar, until later it was believed to be the main candidate for the head of the government, used as Deputy PM with Abdul Salam Hanafi, another Taliban leader.
However, both Karzai and Abdullah are still considered valuable by the Taliban.
“The regime realizes that both of them are leading Afghan leaders who have global acceptance and recognition.
Instead of allowing them to leave the country, they think they live in the country will be more useful,” said Waqas Shah, a Pakistani journalist who discussed the war.
Fight terror in Afghanistan for more than a decade.
According to him, the Taliban believes that Karzai or Abdullah lives abroad and is openly critical of the government will be more dangerous.
“For the Taliban, a better choice is to keep it under strict checks and supervision in Kabul.”
