Kabul: The Taliban military commander in Kabul was among the fighters who were killed when his people responded to an Islamic state attack in a hospital, Wednesday officials said.
Hamdullah Mokhlis, a member of the Haqqani Hardline network and an officer in a special Forces Corps Badri, is the most senior figure who has been killed since the Taliban won the capital.
“When he was informed that Sardar Hospital David Khan was attacked, Maulvi Hamdullah (Mokhlis), Commander of the Korps Kabul, immediately rushed to the scene,” Taliban media officials said.
“We tried to stop it but he laughed.
Then we found that he was martyred in a face-to-face battle at the hospital,” he added.
At least 19 people were killed on Tuesday in the attack claimed by Taliban hardline rivals, states of Islam – Khorasan (IS-K), at the Kabul Main Military Hospital.
The attack began with a suicide bomber who detonated explosives near the entrance of the facility before the gunman entered the hospital page.
As part of the response, the new ruler Kabul mobilized their special forces to the roof of the building in a helicopter captured from the former Afghan government supported by the US.
The witnesses described for AFP a terror scene, because the patient and doctor tried to lock themselves in the upstairs room and erupted shots.
In a statement released on his telegram channel, IS-K said that “five Islamic group fighters carried out simultaneous coordinated attacks” on the site.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid played the dead, and said the attack was lowered within 15 minutes thanks to a quick intervention.
