New Delhi: Sujeet Chattopadhyay, a retired teacher from West Bengal who taught around 300 students only for RS 2, amended by Padma Shri Award by President of RAM Nath Kovind on Tuesday.
After his retirement, Chattopadhyay (78), a resident of the Burdwan District, has taught poor children.
He taught class X students, XI and a bachelor’s degree.
Speaking with Ivers, Chattopadhyay said that it was a matter of pride for him to be respected by the President.

“I have a message that is conveyed to my students that our school has been awarded.
I am a teacher and the task of the teacher does not end even after retirement.
That’s why I teach poor children in my area,” he said.
“My students are proud of me and they also send messages to the president to be conveyed to him,” Chattopadhyay said.
The students have demanded a bachelor’s degree and the SBI branch at Ramnagar Gram Panchayat, he said.
Explained further, Chatttopadhyay said that students must travel 30 km for banking transactions.
He said that he had made the same request as state administration, but was in vain.
In addition to providing education, he also buys clothes and other essences for poor students.
Chattopadhyay also maintains thalassemic patients.
He, together with his students, organized camps for such patients and tried to help them financially too.
