Thiruvananthapuram: The local court here on Thursday sentenced a government teacher for one year in prison after he was found guilty of injuring a student and caused permanent blindness in one eye.
Regency and Additional Court Session (Pocso) K v Rjaneesh punished Sherida Shajahan from Thoongampara for the incident that occurred in 2005.
The judge has also imposed a penalty for Rs 3 Lakh to the teacher.
Failure to pay a penalty will result in a sentence extension for three months.
The incident was related to this case took place on January 18, 2005, when Sherida Sherida worked as a teacher at the lower government elementary school, Kakela, near Malayinkezu.
Al Ameen, who is a class III student when crime occurs, is a complainant in this case.
The prosecution case was that the teacher threw a pen to students when he took the class.
Pens hit students in the left eye which caused serious injury.
Although injured students rushed to the hospital and provided treatments, doctors could not help regain the vision of the injured eye.
The teacher was then booked by Malayinkezhu police.
