Nagpur: When Wednesday night wore, certain telephone numbers in the small village of Gadchiroli district were flooded with congratulations and phone calls.
For Sironcha Taluka’s Zilla Parishad School teacher Khurshid Sheikh, the news was just about drowning because he was one of the prestigious national award recipients to the teacher (2021).
This will be enough to say that it is considered filmfare and Oscar which is equivalent to the teacher.
Sheikh, a teacher at the Upper ZP elementary school (Asaralli Village), is among 44 teachers throughout the country who will receive awards at the hands of the President of India.
From Maharashta, another teacher of Osmanabad, Umesh Khose, has been chosen too.
This award, under the Aegis Union Minister of Education, is given for the work that should be emulated in the field of education by active / serving teachers.
For Sheikh, this is the peak of selfless dedication to a district that he fell in love with almost three decades ago.
Speaking to Toi from Sironcha Taluka, Sheikh said, “I came from Jalgaon and came to Gadchiroli 25 years ago for my graduation in education (B.ED).
I live here to make me realize that the need for teachers is actually in the villages Remote where there is so much work to do.
And I never leave.
“Sheikh has been recognized because of his contribution to helping students overcome learning gaps.
“I teach in the top elementary school where students to STD VII are registered.
Because we are near the Telangana border, the majority of the majority of these children are Telugu.
The others speak Madia, a very common dialect here.
Our curriculum is in Marathi , which is why the learning gap was made.
During the period of time we developed a system where even their language was used as a starting point to cross the mainstream learning, “Sheikh said.
While a very bad network makes most of the conversations incomprehensible, sheikh humility is clear.

“I want to serve more tribal students and ensure that they get good education.
Gadchiroli is now my home and I will try to be worth it for it,” Sheikh said.
