BELOGIVAVI: The youngest member of this selfless volunteer group is 24, while the oldest is 74, and bridging this gaping difference in the past is the desire to lend assistance to those who are disadvantaged than them.
A team consisting of 35 volunteers, uniting under the banner ‘Madad Operation (Help)’ has toured Beleagavan distributing blankets to homeless people to help protect from wheat air during a very cold winter in the border district.
In the past few weeks, these volunteers visited the suburbs of Bellagavi, where many people lived in an emergency house, which offered a little protection against cold, and to whom the blanket was good and really, blessings.
This volunteer team has reached people from susceptible parts of society to help them fight the difficulty of the covid-induced crisis.
Led by Padmaprasad Holi, this team has been involved with various social problems, and tries to alleviate poor and down suffering.
Beleagavi records the lowest temperature in this winter carnataka, with mercury dropped up to eight degrees.
It was a sharp decline in temperatures that inspired the team to take the initiative to distribute blankets to homeless people.
Rohul Patil, the volunteer who reportedly came with the idea, said that they approached several non-governmental organizations to seek assistance to buy carpets for homeless people.
One good deed leads to another when the team decides to buy a carpet made locally, woven by members of the Kuruba community in the district.
The team bought 150 carpets from Weaver Kuruba, where 70 was distributed to poor people in just three days.
Padmaprasad Holi told Toi, “We are not a registered foundation but only a group of people who think the same, are committed to helping people.
There are lawyers, doctors, entrepreneurs in this group.
We reach people when natural disasters such as floods, and crises like those Triggered by a pandemic.
Our aim is to help vulnerable people.
“Bellagavi-based lecturer Vidyashree Halmakath turned off the efforts of the volunteer team, which he called ‘Inspiration’.
“This team will keep human spirit of life.
Every time I hear about this team, I have been inspired,” he said.
