Doha: Qatar has mentioned the Taliban’s decision on the education of girls in Afghanistan “very disappointing” and step back and called for group leadership to look at Doha to run the Islamic system.
The Taliban, who ruled in August, had imposed several restrictions on women including rejection to allow them to continue their studies, reported by Al Jazeera.
The statement was made by Diplomat Sheikh Mohammed Top Qatar bin Abdulrahman Al Thani at a press conference on Thursday with European Union Foreign Policy Head Josep Borrell in Doha.
“The recent action we saw unfortunately in Afghanistan, was very disappointing to see a few steps taken backwards,” he said.
“We must continue to involve them and urge them not to take such actions, and we have also tried to show the Taliban how Muslim countries can do their law, how they can handle women’s problems,” Sheikh Mohammed said.
“One example is Qatar, which is a Muslim country; our system is the Islamic system [but] we have women exceed the number of men in labor, in government and in higher education.” The Taliban has been accused of violating human rights in recent weeks, including publicly assembling the body of four suspected kidnappers from Cranes in Herat last week.
The appearance of suspect kidnapping dead, who was killed in a shootout, was the most famous public punishment because the Taliban swept power last month.
