Ranchi: Jharkhand police have eliminated four top left-wing extremists and captured 221 in operations against them since the beginning of the year.
Police said 71 CPI members (Maois), 86 liberation of people in front of India (PLFI) and 46 Tritya Prastuti Committee (TPC) were arrested between January and July 20, 2021.
Among the four extremists who were eliminated this year were CPI (Maoist) members of the Regional Committee Budhhhwar Oraon and PLFI Commander of Zonal Sanichar Surin.
Oraon and Surin were killed in separate operations carried out in Gumla and Chaibasa District in July.
The police claimed that the operation, which caused Oroan elimination, was carried out in a thick wooded area where extremists had planted thousands of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and the attack team had to search under difficult situations.
During the meeting, the police recovered 19 weapons looted in addition to winning four regular weapons, 96 countries made by the country and 5,802 cartridges.
More than 200 IEDs, 179.5 kg of explosives and 95 detonators also recover.
Eleven extremists, including five of the CPI (Maois) and four of TPC surrendered before the police.
Among them were CPI (Maois) Zonal Commander Jeevan Kamponan, members of the TPC Mukesh Ganjhu regional committee and the PLFI Area Commander.
The Director General of Police Neeraj Sinha recently said even though he met during anti-extremist surgery, the police would prefer that extremists surrendered with the state government policy and join the mainstream.
