New Delhi: The train is exploring the option to convert a general coach on a long-range train into the AC compartment in an effort to provide a comfortable travel to passengers who cannot pay high costs.
The source said the trainers would have a seating setting for 100-120 passengers and therefore tariffs would be far less so ordinary people could travel in this coach.
This compartment will be fully provided and will have an automatic cover door.
Toi has learned that brainstorming sessions about this plan have begun in the train Ministry.
The first AC general class coach is likely to be produced at the train coach factory in Kapurthala in Punjab.
Although all the remote trains except the main ones such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Vande Bharat have a general compartment without siding before the Covid-19 pandemic, now all coaches are managed as compartments that are reserved.
Officials say if public passengers can get a comfortable trip in AC coach with affordable fees, then this must be a priority of the train.
Recently, the train introduced an AC economy class coach with a lower rate than AC-3 Tier as an option for passengers who chose to travel in the class coach.
It also started the girl service from the All-AC economy train.
