New Delhi: Trinamool Congress Delegation Thursday Meet Election Commission Officials (EC) here with a request to hold the earliest Bypolls for seven empty assembly seats in West Bengal.
The seat of the Dinhata and Santipur assemblies fell emptiness after BJP leaders Nisith Pramanik and Jagannath Sarkar resigned as MLA to maintain their parliamentary membership.
Likewise, the election cannot be held in Samserganj and Jangipur seats in Murshidabad because of the death of candidates during the recent assembling poll in the state.
The Kharda chair fell emptiness in the North-Parganas District after TMC Kajal Sinha candidate died before he could celebrate his victory.
The Gosaba chair also fell emptiness after TMC candidate, Jayanta Naskar, who won the election, surrendered to Covid in June.
“Our meeting with the election election commission (EC) is very friendly and the poll body says the goal is to hold elections and not hold back the voting process.
We told them that the situation was conducive to resisting polls because the number of Covid cases has been rejected in the country.
We have also given them Covid statistics in all seven constituencies where the Bypolls are waiting.
EC said they would consider our problems and we hope for a fair response from EC, “said MP Saugata Roy TMC meeting.
The party in memorandum to EC said that the Coronavirus case in the state has dropped to 830 of 70,000 cases and the right time for polls.
The delegation also requested that the Bypolls not be held during the festival season began in a few months.
TMC MPS who met EC included Roy, Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, Jawhar Sircar, Sajda Ahmed, and Mahua Moitra.
The EC in the previous letter has been seeking the opinions of parties in holding elections by West Bengal.
Mohua Moitra also suggested that EC can accommodate by gradual elections (in three to four phases) in seven constituencies.
On May 21, TMC MLA from the Constituency of Bhawanipur Sovandeb Chattopadhyay resigned from the post to make a way for Mamata Banerjee.
According to the Constitution, Banerjee, who lost Nandigram seats this year, can run the state as the main minister but he must be elected in the next six months to defend his post.
In such cases, Bypolls in six empty assembly chairs must be done on November 5, 2021.
