Tirupur: Udumalpet police arrested two people on Wednesday because they tried to attract Rs 5.7 lakh by forging signatives for forest department officials.
The police identified them as Palanimy, 28, who worked as a temporary staff at the reserve office of the Anamalai Tiger (ATR) in Udumalpet and his Premkumar colleague.
Palanimy stole the leaf check from the department and falsify the Signature of the ATR Deputy Director of Arockiajaj Xavier on Monday.
He gave a check to the Premkumar, which kept it at the National Bank in Udumalpet.
On Tuesday, the bank staff contacted an ATR official to ask the signature, which seemed different.
Officials confirmed that it was a fake check and filed a complaint with the Udumalpet police.
The police registered a case below section 381, 468 and 420 read with 511 from Indian Criminal Code.
Palanimy and Premkumar are returned in judicial detention.
