Brussels: The European Union government agreed on the need for “strong” acts against the UK if London follows through the threat to improve post-Brexit trade disputes, EU’s diplomats said on Wednesday.
England and the European Commission have held talks for the past month over trading arrangements for Northern Ireland, with an examination needed for the goods that enter from the UK.
Examination needed to avoid introducing strong borders between the province of Britain and Irish European Union members.
European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic Explanation of the European Union ambassador in Brussels on Wednesday and, according to EU diplomats, told them that England would not be good, but that conversation must continue.
Commission last month offered Britain package steps to relieve the transit of goods to Northern Ireland, but quit the repair of the London protocol desire that regulates the position of a unique provincial trade.
The UK has threatened to the provisions of the emergency trigger based on article 16 of the protocol.
“The European Union is preparing to trigger Article 16 by Britain.
There is a consensus among the arbitrary European Union member countries and the steps justified by the UK will meet with a clear European response,” said a European Union diplomat.
The European Union diplomat said there was an agreement in all 27 European Union members who were like a clear response to be needed.
Some emphasize it must be “proportional”, others that it must “hit hard” or “strong”, even if this also has a negative impact on the European Union’s economy.
“There’s no point in just being smooth together,” said a diplomat.
The Commission, which oversees the European Union relations with Post-Brexit Britain, can present possible choices for the action next week.
The European Union leaders can also convene to determine the response if Britain does trigger Article 16.
Brexit Minister David Frost said on Wednesday that Brussels must remain calm and avoid starting the retaliation of “massive and disproportionate”.
