The United Nations: The United Nations Ambassador who represents the Afghan government which was overthrown had asked to remain in the country’s seat in the world in New York, a UN spokesman said on Friday, established a dispute if the Taliban tried to appoint their own envoy.
The Ambassador Ghulam Isaczai signed a letter to the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres with the Afghan delegation list for the General Assembly, said Spokesman for Guterres Farhan Haq.
Not immediately explained whether Taliban, who seized power last month as the US and foreign forces resigned after the 20-year war, would submit their own messengers to the United Nations.
Isaczai sent an accreditation request on Wednesday, Haq said, the day after the General Assembly session had just begun.
Dozens of world leaders traveling to New York next week for the UN Annual Meeting and Isaczai is currently scheduled to overcome the last day of the meeting on September 27.
The UN credentials are handled by the committee of nine members appointed every year.
The committee, named after Tuesday, consists of Bahamas, Bhutan, Chile, China, Namibia, Russia, Sierra Leone, Sweden and the United States.
The committee traditionally met in October or November to assess the credentials of all UN members before sending reports for the approval of the General Assembly before the end of the year.
The Committee and General Assembly usually operate with consensus on credentials, diplomats said.
Until the decision made Isaczai will remain in the chair, according to the General Assembly rules.
When the last Taliban ruled between 1996 and 2001, the Afghan government ambassador that they found remained a UN representative after the credential committee delayed the decision on rival claims to seats.
The decision was postponed “about understanding that Afghanistan’s current representatives who were accredited to the United Nations would continue to participate in the Employment of the General Assembly,” according to the Committee report.
Guterres said last month that Taliban’s desire for international recognition was the only international community leverage to suppress the inclusive government and respect the rights, especially for women, in Afghanistan.
