New York: Myanmar Ambassador to the United Nations, which was criticized by his country’s military authorities, said on Wednesday that the real threat had been made against him and the US authorities had increased his security.
Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun represents the selected Myanmar civilian government, which was overthrown by the military in February.
Military leaders hate it in February, but for now, he remains the UN envoy of the country because the United Nations does not recognize military takeover.
“Reportedly there are several threats.
The police are working on it.
The security needed has been provided by the police,” Kyaw Moe Tun told Reuters.
He is aware of the threat on Tuesday.
There is no further details available at this time.
The FBI did not immediately respond to a comment request.
A State Department spokesman said: “We do not discuss the details of our protection operations.” Myanmar State Television announced in February that Kyaw Moe Tun had been fired for betraying the country, the day after he urged the country to use “all the necessary ways” to reverse the February 1st military takeover which overthrew the chosen leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Diplomats expect conflict next month at the United Nations about whether Kyaw Moe Tun can remain Myanmar ambassador or whether the country’s military leaders must be allowed to replace them with new envoys to the 193-member body.
