Thane: Undertrials that escaped from the Vartak Nagar police station were arrested back from Talegaon Dabhade near Pune last week.
Allegations have been identified as Shrama Puriab 24, residents of Savarkar Nagar.
A police officer informed that the defendant had grabbed the cellphone of a senior citizen and then the audience had dropped and arrested him after the victim raised an alarm.
He was then taken to the Vartak Nagar police station and the case below part 392 from the Indian criminal code was registered against him on Monday.
At the same time around 11:30, the police carried out formalities for him to take medical examinations.
But in the meantime, he managed to escape from the police station with a handcuff and could not be traced since then.
A police officer informed that some of them tried to give him a pursuit but disappeared in the dark and also checked in his relatives located in the Chitsar area.
The police said that before their team could reach there, he managed to escape.
Some teams were formed and the police received a tip-off that the defendant would likely reach one of their relatives in Divadgaon near Somatane Phata near Talegaon Dabhade.
The defendant was taken by the police in the wait and brought back to the Vartak Nagar police station and an additional case registered with him under the Section of the 224 IPC.
He was produced in the Magistrate Court and the police secured his rights for further investigation, the officer said.
