Geneva: The UN Human Rights Council comfortably passes through the resolution on Friday which recognizes access to a safe and healthy environment as a fundamental right despite lead criticism for voting from the United Kingdom, the United States and other countries.
Resolution, which was proposed by Costa Rica, Maldives, Morocco, Slovenia and Switzerland, was authorized with 43 supporting votes and 4 abstentions from Russia, India, China and Japan, encouraged rare applause in the Geneva forum.
England, which is one of the critics of proposals in negotiations recently, voted on a shock step.
The United States does not choose because it is currently not a member of the 47 member council.
