Washington: America focused on evacuation of its citizens from Afghanistan, and will continue to do it, US defense secretary Lloyd Austin said on Saturday.
“We remain focused on ensuring that we can continue to issue American citizens and leading citizens who want to get out of Afghanistan.
So we will continue to work to do that,” said Austin on the MANAMA 2021 IISS dialog.
Taliban took over Kabul after an attack that saw falling rapidly Afghan government forces.
Meanwhile, more than 28,000 Afghans have submitted a temporary visa to the US, but only 100 of them have been agreed so far, local media reported by saying officials.
On the other hand, the Afghan family who permanently settled in the US said that they were waiting for their relatives to be resolved in the US and fear of being targeted by the Taliban, reported Afghan news services.
According to The Khaama Press, every applicant of parole – Afghanistan who will fund family in the US – so far pay hundreds of dollars of USD 11.5 million in total which has been paid in recent months.
The US defense secretary also said that the United States and the Iraqi government were still worried about the terror group of the Islamic State, and Washington would continue to help Iraq in battle.
“We are still worried about ISIS, the Iraqi government is still worried about ISIS.
We will do everything we can to help support the Iraqi government and ensure that ISIS does not have the ability to regenerate.
