WASHINGTON: The US military maintains the authority to protect Afghan forces in the country, said the Pentagon on Friday.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the head of the US forces in Afghanistan still had the authority, even when the US closed on military withdrawal from Afghanistan.
He refused to say how long the US military would have authority.
