Washington: The US Transportation Department on Tuesday issued orders to ban ticket sales for air travel between the United States and Belarus, acting after Minsk forced Ryanair flights to land and arrest a dissident journalist on board.
In issuing orders, the Department of Transportation said the US State Department had determined that limiting trips between the United States and Belarus were in the interests of Washington’s foreign policy considering the transfer of Ryanair flights.
It is said that the order will expand to the “interline” traveling where tickets are purchased through one airline containing flights operated by several airlines.
Orders that have been considered by the US government for several weeks – mostly symbolically because some relative tickets are purchased to travel to Belarus from US-based travel services.
Open for public comments until 1.
July however, at that time, the United States stopped forcing any limits.
“Notification to Airmen” does not apply to cargo carriers such as United Parcel Service and Fedex Corp flying in Belarus.
United Airlines fly routes to India which are sometimes directed near Belarus, but no other US passenger operators who usually fly through the airspace of the Soviet Republic.
