The United States reported at least 1.13 million new Coronavirus infections on Monday, according to Reuters calculations, the highest total daily of any country in the world as the spread of an omicron variant that is very contagious does not show signs of slowing.
The previous record was 1.03 million cases on January 3.
A large number of cases are reported every Monday because many countries do not report during the weekend.
On average seven days for new cases have tripled in two weeks to more than 700,000 new infections a day.
Not all countries report on Mondays and the last number is likely to be higher.

There were more than 135,500 people treated at the hospital with Covid, exceeding a record 132,051 set in January last year.
While the omicron variant has the potential to be less severe, health officials have warned that the number of infections can solely regulate the hospital system, some of which have suspended elective procedures when they struggle to handle improvements in patients and lack of staff.
A surge in cases has disturbed the school, which struggled with absent staff, teachers and bus drivers.
Chicago canceled the class for the fourth day because the district and teacher failed to agree on how to deal with increased infection.
New York City suspended services on three subway lines due to a large number of sick workers, according to his Twitter account.
