Washington: The United States sent a small number of personnel to sustain security at his embassy in Haiti after the murder of President Jovenel Moise, three US officials said on Tuesday.
Moise’s murder on July 7 by the squad of armed people at his home in Port-au-Prince threw more deeply into the political crisis that was full of those who were already full of crises.
Although it is not uncommon for the United States to send additional security forces, including the Marines, to its embassies throughout the world during the crisis period, the spread highlights the level of uncertainty of moise murder.
Officials, talking to the terms of anonymity, said less than a dozen personnel were deployed in the days after the murder and not immediately clear how much since returning to the United States.
Haiti also asked for the placement of US troops in this country to help secure the main infrastructure after murder.
A letter from the office of the Temporary Prime Minister Claude Joseph to the US Embassy in Haiti, dated Wednesday and reviewed by Reuters, asked for sending troops to support the national police in rebuilding security and protecting important infrastructure.
While demand is still in the review, officials said the Pentagon today did not see the need to deploy military personnel to Haiti.
