Washington: People who are vaccinated against Covid-19 in the high-risk sections of the United States must continue to wear masks in the room, the top health authority says on Tuesday, the main reversal in the guidance that underlines the country’s struggle to suppress the Delta variant.
President Joe Biden said the announcement showed that America needed to “do a better” in vaccination, adding that vaccine mandates for more than two million federal workers now “are being considered.” The center for Disease Control and Rochelle prevention director Walensky cites new data that shows a rare breakthrough case involving delta has an increased risk of further transmission.
“In the area with substantial and high transmissions, the CDC recommends people who are fully vaccinated using masks in the settings in the general room,” he said.
Recently last week, the CDC has defended his surprise decision in May which did not have to be used by people in the room in most circumstances.
In another setback, the White House on Tuesday also ordered all of his staff to cover again because of the local transmission rate in Washington.
According to the latest CDC data, 63 percent of this country more than 3,200 districts experienced substantial or high transmissions.
Substantially defined as between 50 to 100 cases everyday per 100,000 people for seven days, while the height is defined as more than 100 cases everyday per 100,000 for seven days.
Biden said he would set new steps on Thursday to overcome the delay in vaccination after the start of the country for the program.
In a separate address to the US intelligence community, when asked about the possibility of a vaccine mandate for US federal workers, Biden answered: “It is being considered now.” On Monday, the Veteran Affairs Department said it would require frontline health workers, around 115,000 people, to get shots, becoming the first federal agent to institutionalize requirements.
Walensky stressed that what was called a “breakthrough” case among people who were vaccinated remained rarely – shots reduce the risk of seven-fold symptomatic disease, and inpatient with a factor of twenty.
However, new CDC research shows that when people who are vaccinated become infected, their viral load is similar to people who are not vaccinated.
“It leads us to believe that the breakthrough of infection, rarely occurs, has the potential to continue transmission at the same capacity of people who are not vaccinated,” he said.
To stem the deployment of the Delta variant, the CDC will recommend a school that adopts universal masking, including teachers, staff, students and visitors, regardless of vaccination status, when they reopen in the fall, he added.
Former President Donald Trump was widely accused of blaming the virus while in the office, slamming the latest recommendations.
“We will not return.
We will not cover our children,” he said in a statement.
“Brave Americans learn how to be safe and responsible for life and fight.” Infection numbers in the United States are now swollen, thanks to the Delta variant, which accounts for around 90 percent of cases.
The average of the latest seven days of everyday case is more than 56,000, similar to the last level seen in April.
In total, more than 610,000 people have died of Covid-19 in the United States.
