Ankara, Turkey: Rescuers recover more Monday’s corpses from severe floods that destroy the parts of the Turkish Black Sea coast last week, bringing the 77th death toll, officials said.
Heavy rains beat the northwestern black sea province on August 11, causing flooding that destroyed houses and bridges, sweeping the car and blocking access to many roads.
The Turkish disaster management agency, Afad, said at least 62 people were killed in Kastamonu Province, 14 died in Sinop and one in Bartin.
The emergency crew on Monday pressed forward with efforts to find dozens of people who were still reported missing in Kastamonu and Sinop.
AFAD said around 8,000 personnel were supported by 20 rescue dogs, involved in rescue efforts and assistance.
About 2,400 people were evacuated throughout the region in the middle of the flood – their scores were lifted to a safe place with a helicopter.
Many are placed temporarily in the student dormitory.
About 40 villages persist, according to AFAD.
Heavy rain along the north coast of the Black Sea last week also forced 1,500 people to be evacuated in Russia.
A heavy flood came after Turkey experienced a burning heat wave and when the crew in the south tame the forest fires that ran across the country’s Mediterranean coast.
Climate scientists say there is little doubt that climate change from coal combustion, oil and natural gas encourage more extreme events – such as heat waves, droughts, forest fires, floods and storms – like this planet warm.
