Ludhiana: Upset of drug trafficking carried out from their village, Ghulal residents, Samrala, arrested three addicts when they came to buy contraband goods on Wednesday morning.
Local sources said “villagers have been wearing all villages since Tuesday night after they got a report on drug buyers entries.
They understood one of the addicts with drugs on Tuesday night and three on Wednesday.
They have submitted the four addicts to the police.” In a video, a village resident was heard saying that they did not have much trust in the police so that they themselves would guard day and night to save villages from drugs.
The villagers said Tuesday night one of three people who had come in the school bus were arrested and on Wednesday at 7 am three men, who allegedly came to the village to buy Chitta (fate), arrested.
Villager said in the video for the past four to five years, Chitta was being sold there and 200-300 young men came to the village to buy it.
The villagers have approached the police and local leaders several times, but when there were no actions taken, people, together with a sports club, finally took it to catch addicts.
Many angry villagers raised slogans against the government and their administration also wrote to the main minister and demanded strict action.
It was alleged that the name of someone who sold drugs was previously mentioned to the police many times and some buyers were also nabbed and handed over to the police, but until now there was no action taken.
Samrala Sho Inspector Surjit Singh said the three young men had been ordered under Section 323 (voluntarily causing injury), 341 (wrong restraints), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (actions carried out by several people in the IPC.
Asked why they have not ordered under the NDPS law, Sho said they were investigating the casing and there was no recovery from the defendant.
