Mumbai: Bank Icici branch manager in Virar (East) was killed and a cashier was seriously injured when they were cut in the neck while fighting two robbers who tried to escape with cash and gold from the locker on Thursday night.
The two victims were women.
Local residents reminded one of the robbers, a former bank manager and currently work as managers at other private sector banks in Naigaon, and hand them to the police.
The police said the robbers hit banks, located close to the Virar train station, around 8pm.
The manager, Yogita Vartak, and the cashier, Sweta Devrukh, was inside the bank with half-half window leaves.
Other staff have gone for the day around 7:30 p.m., said Virar Police Inspector Suresh Warade.
An officer at the scene said the manager and cashier were winding when the duo was blown to the bank, which was located on the ground floor.
According to the police, the two men, including the defendant who were arrested, Anil Dubey (35), known by the victims, went straight to the locker.
They threatened women and forced Vartak to open lockers.
When men fill two bags with cash and gold and will escape, women lift alarms.
One of the defendants took out a razor and slashed Vartak’s neck.
He fainted on the floor.
Devrukh was also attacked in the neck with a razor.
The cashier’s scream warned people passing on a busy road that managed to catch Dubey and handed it to the police, but his legs were not known to escape in riots.
The police have restored a bag containing cash and gold from Dubey.
The car where he arrived was found parking in the distance.
While Vartak was declared dead on arrival at the nearest Sanjeevani Hospital, Devrukh was treated at the main health care center and his condition was said to be serious.
Both are residents of the Vasai region.
The initial investigation found by Dubey was used to work as a manager at the Bank Icici branch in Virar until a few years ago.
The police said Dubey knew about the function of the bank and realized that employees remained back late at night during the end of each month for accounting related work.
The police checked the recording of the Bank’s closed circuit television (CCTV).
Security guards are also questioned.
It is not known whether security guards are when men enter the bank.
The process of registering the FIR is ongoing when it will press.
